KUCHING: The Neurodivergent Mural Art Bazaar at Telang Usan Hotel aims to promote neurodiversity awareness to the public.

A press release issued on December 12 revealed that 18 neurodivergent artists from the autism community in Kuching had banded together a mural art bazaar that would be on display from January 13 to January 15 at the Telang Usan Hotel starting at 9 am daily.

The Neurodivergent Mural Art Bazaar is a three-day charity event organised by Autsome Kuching, a recently founded non-governmental organisation (NGO) dedicated to empowering and celebrating autistic people and spreading awareness of the neurodivergent community of individuals on the autism spectrum.

The mural art bazaar, according to Autsome Kuching’s founder Emma Zainal Abiddin, is intended to promote mental health literacy through art, music and education.

“The bazaar will feature sape player Mathew Ngau, arts and craft vendors showcasing the work of local artistes, food and beverages.

“Additionally, there will be talks on autism awareness and mental health in the context of autism, providing attendees with invaluable information and resources,” she said.

The event is expected to be officiated by Kuching South City Hall (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng on January 13.

Emma added that in addition to the bazaar, there would also be a free mental health screening offered by the Mental Health Association Sarawak, with the intention of giving the locals a chance to learn more about their mental health and connect with resources.

Meanwhile, Telang Usan Hotel general manager Audry Wan Ulok said that the hotel was proud to co-organise the event and educate the public on neurodivergent people in the community.

“It is amazing to see this mural come alive in only two weeks, painted by 18 of our neurodivergent artistes from Kuching’s autism community. Join us at the Neurodivergent Mural Art Bazaar and be a part of this celebration. Let’s start 2023 with mental health literacy,” she added.

The charity event is organised by Telang Usan Hotel and Autsome Kuching in collaboration with Place Borneo.
