KUCHING: A new cluster was declared in Sarawak on Wednesday (Oct 28), namely the Greenhill Cluster in Kuching District.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the index case of this cluster was Case 798, who tested positive for Covid-19 on Oct 26.

“A total of 45 contacts of the case have been screened. Three of these contacts tested positive for Covid-19 on Oct 27 and 15 more contacts were found positive today (Wednesday).

“This brings the total number of cases in this cluster to 19, including the index case,” he said at the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Covid-19 update press conference on Wednesday (Oct 28).

Uggah said these cases were social contacts who had a history of attending several gatherings in Kuching.

He added that further investigation and contact tracing with regard to this cluster were being actively conducted by the State Health Department (JKNS) along with other agencies under SDMC to contain the spread of the virus.

With this new cluster, there are now five active clusters in Sarawak.

Uggah, who is also SDMC chairman, said there were no new positive Covid-19 cases involving the Bah Arnab Cluster in Kuching, with the total number of positive cases linked to the cluster remaining at 12 including the index case.

“As at 12pm on Oct 28, eight cases were still undergoing treatment at the hospital isolation ward and are in stable condition,” he said.

Uggah said there were also no new additions to the Putra Cluster in Bintulu, leaving the total number of positive cases in this cluster at five including the index case.  All   had recovered and were discharged from the hospital.

There were also no new additional cases reported in the Baki Cluster or the Seladah Cluster in Kuching on Wednesday (Oct 28).

For both of these clusters, Uggah said all the positive cases detected were still being treated at hospital isolation wards and they were in stable condition.
