KUCHING: Semop assemblyman Datuk Abdullah Saidol wants to fulfil the aspirations and hopes of the people who want to see development not only in urban but also the rural areas.

He pledged to do his best in line with the trust given to him following his election as one of the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Supreme Council members under the Bumiputera Wing for the term 2022-2025.

“Many of the grassroots have raised the issues telecommunications and dilapidated schools in the interior that need to be upgraded or repaired in the interior area.

“Therefore, I look at my position in this Supreme Council as representing the voice of the rural people, hence I will touch on matters that need to be given attention in the rural areas in order to bridge the gap between urban and rural areas,” he said in a press conference during the last day of the party’s Triennial General Meeting (TGM) at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today (June 19).

He added it is also the role of the elected representatives in PBB to ensure that these matters are given attention.

“Two third of the 82 state seats are rural areas, especially Bumiputera areas, and I think it is fair that these areas get comprehensive developments,” he pointed out.

He added that the people in the interior have also sacrificed a lot for the development of the state in terms of handing over their lands for development, thus in return it is only fair that they are given fair treatment for their sacrifices.

“Apart from that, while tabling the last State Budget, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg stated 70 per cent of the budget is focused on development in rural areas.

“I think this development is acceptable by all as part of the state’s commitment to develop the state,” he said.

Abdullah Saidol, who is also Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and Sarawak Public Communications Unit), said that if the people continued to work together and understood the state’s development agenda, he believed the Sarawak government could advance the state towards becoming the most modern, progressive state among the 13 states in Malaysia.
