SRI AMAN: Every government department should have an Emergency Response Team (ERT) to deal with possible fire incidents in their respective workplaces.
In view of this, the Sri Aman Division Health Office with the cooperation of the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM) and the Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) here, yesterday organised a talk on ERT.
“The talks on the establishment of the ERT included a demonstration on the use of fire extinguishers to all 65 medical personnel participating in the programme.
“We are confident that the ERT team will be able to handle the fire at work while waiting for the arrival of firefighters,” said BBP Sri Aman spokeswoman, PBK II Jilin Itar.
In addition, the programme would also indirectly inculcate awareness of fire safety at the workplace among medical staff here he said.
“This is because not many civil servants including members of the public have adequate know-how in preventing and handling fire incidents in their respective places,” she added.
“The Fire and Rescue Department has expertise in this field and can be called upon to deliver talks and provide fire prevention training to them.
“Take advantage of the knowledge gained through this programme. Share knowledge on fire prevention with friends so that the risk of fire at work can be reduced in the future, “said Jilin.
The talks, in conjunction with the ERT programme were delivered by BBP Sri Aman, PPGB William Baheng, PBK II Jilin Itar and UN Azman Bohari.
The closing ceremony of the ERT establishment seminar, organised in conjunction with the Workers Safety and Health Week, was officiated by Sri Aman Division Health Officer, Dr Musalnizan Mustalkah.
