KUCHING: Twenty-seven people were made homeless after fire swept through five wooden houses in Kampung Muara Tebas, Jalan Bako here on Saturday.
A spokesman from State Fire and Rescue Department said 28 personnel from two fire engines, a water tanker and EMRS vehicle from Petra Jaya, Tabuan Jaya and Kuching fire stations were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 4.02pm.
He said firefighters arrived at the scene at 4.26pm and were able to control the flames from spreading to nearby houses.
The spokesman said the flames were fully extinguished at 5.14pm and the operation ended 34 minutes later.
The cause of the fire was being investigated and the total losses suffered by the victims had yet to be ascertained.
