KUCHING: Spring is the first shopping mall mall that collaborates with the Boost app to offer customers cashless transactions. Boost is a leading e-wallet mobile application with over 2.4 million users with online and offline merchants located in over 12,000 touchpoints.

Present to witness the launching of the collaboration on Monday night were Assistant Minister of Entrepreneur and Small, Medium Enterprise (SME) Development, Datuk Haji Mohd Naroden Haji Majais. He pointed out many companies were adopting cashless payments via wave or mobile payment methods. “We can foresee a future whereby we won’t need to carry cash when we go shopping or dine in at the mall.

We just use the app to complete our transactions,” he said. However, Naroden added that the shoppers’ experience did not just end with the tap of a mobile phone. “It is also important to focus on the in-store experience such as welcoming shoppers and learning about the product. “It still requires the human touch and experiential-based marketing. This is something the mall has successfully delivered to its customers over the years,’ he said.

Meanwhile, General Manager of the Spring Management Services Sdn. Bhd, Datin Christine Ling, said the mall’s collaboration with Boost was one of its initiatives to keep up with changes and efforts to do things better, especially in the area of the retail industry.

“On our collaboration with Boost, we want to create a seamless shopping experience for our shoppers,” she explained. Ling said with the app, shoppers could leave home without their wallets and make purchases directly with their mobile phones.

“Shoppers can use the app at our Food Bazaar, Nando’s, Tealive, Universal Traveller or for purchasing movie tickets at MBO Cinemas.” She added the mall would have special promotions for shoppers to enjoy 50 percent cash back when they used the app at the Food Bazaar and some of the booths at the mall’s Raya Bazaar. “The best part of the app is that users will be rewarded instantly after any transactions.”

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of Boost, Christopher Tiffin, said that the company was proud to be partnering with the Spring, which was the first premier mall in Kuching to go cashless with Boost.

“As part of our commitment to cultivate a new digital lifestyle, we encourage seamless transactions for retail shoppers and beyond,” he said. Tiffin added: “In line with the state’s Digital Economy, payments are done instantly by using QR code, making it easy, fast, and secure, including a more rewarding experience for customers. “We look forward to many opportunities in building a cashless society here in Kuching and helping Sarawak to become a leading digital state.”

Customers can also use Boost, a lifestyle app which was launched in January, 2017, in many ways – from buying prepaid top ups, buying e-vouchers which can be sent as e-gifts, free money transfer and even splitting bills easily with its “Go Dutch” feature.

For Android users, the app can be downloaded from the Play Store, while for iOS users, it can be downloaded from the App Store. Also present at the launching of the Spring-Boost collaboration was PE Group of Companies’ Managing Director, James Ling Chung.
