SIBU: A 47-year-old man was injured after being attacked by a debtor who was also his close friend yesterday morning.

According to Sibu deputy police chief Superintendent Martin Koo, the incident occurred when the debt collector asked the debtor to pay an old debt of RM40,000 because he needed money for medical treatment at the  Sarawak Heart Centre in Kuching.

“The debtor met the debt collector near the Aman roundabout and then brought him to the front of a school before stabbing him on the right chest, cheek and back of his head.

“The victim was later sent to the hospital for further treatment,” he said.

The victim and his attacker have been known for about 30 years and were close friends.

“The suspect has surrendered himself to the Sibu Central Police Station and will be remanded.

“The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code,” said Koo.
