MFRD: Celebrate in safety

MUKAH: A fire prevention campaign was successfully held at the longhouse at Sebakong, near here, on Thursday (14 December). The one whole day programme, held from 10am to 8pm, was organised by Mukah Division Fire and Rescue Department (Mukah FRD). According to MFRD Fire Station Head, Bonny Martin, the event involved six longhouses in the area.

“They were Rh. Sendri, Rh. Remong, Rh. Kilat, Rh. Sipok, Rh. Assin and Rh. Entinggie and involved about 60 longhouse folks. The main target group of the campaign are housewives or mothers,” he said. Among the activities of the day were demonstration on the usage of fire extinguishers, kitchen fire fighting including LPG Gas stove leakage, talk on fire prevention, maintenance of fire extinguishers, kitchen safety, longhouse electricity wiring and the proper usage of electrical equipments.

The talk was del ivered by Bonny himself, with training & demonstration that involved the longhouse folks, by Fire Senior Assistant 1, Abdul Rasit B Morni. Other activities of the programme were Question & Answer Session on the fire safety of the longhouses in general and the presentation of 2 units of 9 Kg Dry Dust Fire Extinguishers to each of the participating longhouses.

Bonny revealed that the fire extinguishers presented to the longhouse chiefs at the programme were donated by Tellian State Assemblyman, Yussibnosh Balo, through Mukah FRD. At the event, Bonny also advised the residents of the longhouses to take extra precaution especially while preparing for the forth-coming Christmas Day Celebration and welcoming the New Year 2018.

“With Christmas celebration just around the corner, I wanted the residents of the longhouses in the area to place their safety above all things especially in the preparation of celebrating the auspicious occasion.

Such precaution should also apply to the preparation of welcoming New Year 2018, especially involving the cooking and the usage of electricity, and even such things as using matches(lighter) and candles in the longhouse,” reiterated this officer-in-charge of Mukah FRD.
