LIMBANG: The police here are serious in their fight against drug abuse including among its personnel.

In this connection, a police personnel who have been in service for more than 10 years was held after he was tested positive for drug during a screening conducted among lower ranks personnel last Thursday.

According to Limbang District Police chief, Superintendent Mohd Bukhori Saffai, the 37-year-old suspect who was serving in Limbang Police Station was detained at 10am.

“A urine test conducted on the suspect revealed that he was tested positive for Methapetamine and Amphetamine. Following our initial investigation we discovered that the suspect started to get involved in drug abuse since 2015 and the last time he tool ‘syabu’ was last week,” Bukhori said.

The suspect who also had previous records of drug abuse is being held under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act,1952.

Meanwhile, during a separate drug operation 75 people were checked during a crime prevention operation conducted by the Limbang District Police last Friday night.

The operation which started from 10.30 pm to 1am involved five senior police officers, 20 police personnel of various ranks and five police volunteers.

Mohd Bukhori also said 25 summonses were issued and 60 vehicles were checked in the operation.

“Some 30 motorcycles, 18 cars and 12 heavy vehicles were checked during the operation,” he said, adding that the operation went smoothly.
