State targets 5mln tourist arrivals by year end

KUCHING: The state targets five million tourist arrivals by the end of this year. Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan revealed this in his speech at the official opening of Roxy Hotel at Mile 3 here yesterday.

He said the government today treated seriously the value of tourism to the state’s economy. “Based on the statistics, Sarawak received 4.66 million tourists in 2016 and f rom January t o September this year, the tourist arrivals stood at 3.72 million.

“This big number means the opportunity to run this hotel is bright and worthwhile,” said Tengah. He pointed that the opening of Roxy Hotel by Tecktonic and Sons was supported by the state government. “It is in line with the decentralisation policy on the development of Kuching City,” said Tengah, who is also Second Minister of Urban Development and Natural Resources.

Also present were the Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, Assistant Minister of Entrepreneur and Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Development, Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais and the Managing Director of Tecktonic and Sons, Lee Chin Tek.
