KUCHING: The Society for Cancer Advocacy and Awareness Kuching (SCAN) hosted its inaugural cancer awareness talk tailored for the deaf community at Community Social Support Centre (CSSC) Kuching here today.

Titled ‘Beyond Words: Closing the Gap in Cancer Awareness,’ the event drew participation from approximately 60 members from the society.

President of SCAN, Chris Cheng expressed gratitude to the presenters for their valuable contributions.

“We are indeed ever grateful to the doctors for dedicating their time to share insights with the community, offering hope and dispelling the notion that cancer is a death sentence,” he said in a statement issued by SCAN.

The event featured informative talks by esteemed medical professionals, including Dr Izzati Wan Maharuddin from the Radiotherapy Unit at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and Dr Adibah Ali, a Breast and Endocrine surgeon at SGH.

The event also witnessed Joanne Chia, a metastatic breast cancer survivor who travelled from Singapore to share her journey.
