Nine Sarawak dishes to feature at MAHA

GEDONG: A total of 20 tonnes of agricultural products from Sarawak will be brought to the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2022 in Serdang, Selangor later this year..

Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (MAFI) deputy secretary general (Development) Datuk Badrul Hisham Mohd said these products include ‘nangchem’, a cross of the jackfruit and cempedak, buah kristal (matoa fruit), breadfruit and more.

“The value for the total agricultural product is also about RM400,000. However, this is according to current fruit prices. If the price is higher, the profit will also increase.

“This is the sales target for Sarawak entrepreneurs participating at the MAHA 2022 programme.

“The programme will also feature nine Sarawak dishes, namely Laksa Sarawak, Mee Kolok, Mee Belacan, Ayam Pansuh, Nasi Aruk, Linut, Teh C Special among others.”

He revealed that this year’s MAHA programme will take place on Aug 4-14 with the theme ‘Food Security for the Future’.

He said the theme resonates with the current food security issue faced by multiple countries worldwide.

“We target a sales revenue of more than RM250 million with 100,000 visits every day.”

On another note, Badrul also said that efforts will continue to assist the Sarawak government explore vacant land in the state for agricultural purposes.
