KUCHING: The speculation that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has backed Tun Dr Mahathir to continue to serve as the prime minister is not a surprise.

In fact, political analyst Professor Datuk Mohd Fadzil Abdul Rahman yesterday described supporting Tun Dr Mahathir as a good move for GPS to be able to lead in the coming 12th state election.

“If the rumours are true, PKR will definitely ‘gigit jari’ (anxious or nervous),” he said when contacted by Suara Sarawak yesterday.

Knowing that GPS has always been friendly to PH despite with an opposition status, Fadzil said GPS nevertheless must take this as an advantage to strengthen its position in Sarawak.

“There is nothing to lose with GPS expressing support,” he said.

Concerning speculations about a Cabinet reshuffle, Fadzil said it was normal as the political landscape today was fractionalised.

“Restructuring the Cabinet should strengthen it. The people too, should give them more space and time to adapt to the atmosphere and position and scope of tasks,” he said.
