KUCHING: Police busted an online gambling syndicate following raids on two online gambling call centres operating at two separate locations here on Wednesday (July 22) and apprehended nine individuals, including eight foreigners.

State CID chief SAC Dennis Leong said the suspects aged between 20 and 36 were rounded up following raids at the Stampin Baru housing estate and a condominium at Jalan Sherip Masahor at 9am.

“Initial investigations found the syndicate reaped a daily profit of between RM8,000 and RM10,000,” said Leong.

He said seven desktop computers and 11   smartphones were also confiscated in the raids on the call centres which were believed to have been operating for the past six months.

The first raid at a double storey house resulted in the arrest of three foreign women while police arrested seven individuals including two women in the second raid at a condominium. Of the nine arrested, only one male was a local.

All suspects have been remanded to facilitate investigation under Section 4(1)(g) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
