MIRI: An excavator operator sustained injuries to his thigh from a wooden stick used as a pad in an accident behind a petrol station along Jalan Riam Bypass Lopeng yesterday.

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Lopeng station were despatched to the scene after receiving a distress call around 1.10 pm.

On arrival, the team found a 43-year-old man groaning in pain inside an excavator, that was about to fall over.

According to a witness, the excavator fell over a dirt road and it caused a wooden stick used for stepping to pierce through the victim’s thigh.

The victim’s excavator was later pulled out by the victim’s colleague using another excavator.

The team helped to bring the injured victim to a safer place and administered first aid before he was handed over to the paramedics for further action.
