Ops Lejang bust four locals for trespass, theft

KUCHING: Police picked up four men in an operation codenamed ‘Ops Lejang’ for trespass and theft last week.

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the first arrest involved three locals who were in the midst of trespassing on an automobile workshop at Jalan Datuk Bandar Mustapha here.

Two vehicles used by the suspects and 14 stolen vehicle components estimated to be worth around RM3,000 were seized by the police.

“Background checks found that the suspects have past drug abuse records, have a combined total of 13 records related to crime and drug offences.

“All three suspects will be investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for trespassing, which provides for a jail term of up to 14 years and a fine,” he said.

Meanwhile, the second arrest involving another local was made in front of a motorcycle workshop at Jalan Batu Lintang.

The suspect is said to have attempted to sell a stolen motorcycle to the workshop. The motorcycle valued around RM3,500, was seized as evidence.

Ahsmon said the case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
