Ops Selamat to focus on 58 blackspots

KUCHING: State police through the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department have launched the15th ‘Ops Selamat’ (OP15) to focus on accident prone areas (blackspot zones) state-wide.

State Crime Prevention and Community Security chief Datuk Muhammed Hasbullah Ali said a total of 58 blackspot zones have been identified, mostly involving Pan Borneo Highway from Sibu to Bintulu.

Aimed at reducing road accidents during Gawai Dayak and Hari Raya the operation seeks to be “total enforcement”.

The breakdown of the 58 blackspot zones: Kuching (three) – Jalan Tun Jugah, Jalan Setia Raja, and Jalan Stutong; Padawan (three) – Mile 7th to Mile 24, Kuching-Serian Road and Jalan Matang.

Other routes identified are: Jalan Bau-Serikin, KM17 Jalan Bau-Kuching, KM28-35 Jalan Lundu-Bau, KM 60-66 Jalan Sri Aman-Kuching, KM 47-49 Jalan Sri Aman-Sarikei, KM33-45 Jalan Sri Aman-Sarikei, KM 7-8 Jalan Lubok Antu-Sri Aman, Jalan Betong-Sarikei, Jalan Beladin-Triso Meludam, Jalan Tanjung Genting (Meradong).

KM5 Jalan Pakan, Simpang Bunga Raya and roundabout di Kanowit, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Paradom, Sibu, (KM24-33, KM62-86, KM102-117 and KM43-58) Jalan Sibu-Bintulu, KM4 Jalan Oya-Dalat, Jalan Oya-Senau-Igan, (KM10, KM4-6) Jalan Daro-Matu, Jalan Bukit Goram and Jalan Selirik (Kapit).

Jalan Bintulu-Bakun, Jalan Bintulu-Miri, Jalan Bintulu-Tanjung Kidurong, Jalan Bintulu-Tatau, KM90 Jalan Persisiran Pantai Miri-Bintulu, Miri Bypass, Kuala Baram Bypass, Jalan Beluru-Lapok, KM23-28 Jalan Medamit-Limbang, KM10-25 Jalan Lawas-Merapok and KM8-15 Jalan Lawas-Trusan.

Kota Samarahan, KM1-20 Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa and Mile 8-9 Kuching-Serian, Serian KM29-44 and KM47-55 Jalan Kuching-Serian and KM110-115 Jalan Kuching-Sri Aman and KM13-15 Jalan Kuching-Bukit Punda in Simunjan.

Muhammed Hasbullah reiterated that road users must adhere to the traffic rules and drive prudently.
