MUKAH: Two fishermen who were feared to have gone missing while fishing on Saturday (Mar 25) were apparently stranded at sea after their boat ran out of fuel.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received a missing person’s report from one of the victim’s fathers due to rough sea conditions and concern for his son’s safety.

Firemen from Mukah station were promptly despatched to the scene after receiving the report around 4.05pm.

Prior to starting the search and rescue operation (SAR), the team went to Kampung Petanak to gather information and later received information that the victim’s boat had actually run out of fuel.

Their boat was towed by other fishermen who came to their rescue but it turned out that the other boat also ran out of fuel.

Hearing news about the case, Mukah MP Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib offered rescuers her personal boat and a helmsman to tow the two boats, some 20 nautical miles away, back to shore.
