Over 280 Swinburne graduates receive scrolls

KUCHING: A total of 284 graduates of Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus proudly marked the official culmination of their higher education journey by receiving their scrolls at the university’s convocation ceremony held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today (Oct 17).

One hundred 14 graduated with a degree in the field of business, 55 in engineering, 53 in computing, 11 in design and 3 in science. There were also three graduates from the university’s first cohort of the Bachelor of Media and Communication.

Apart from that, two graduated with a double degree in engineering and computer science, one with a double degree in engineering and business and one with a double degree in law and business.

Thirteen others graduated with Diploma of Business Management while 19 graduated with Master’s degrees.

There were nine Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) graduates in the fields of business, engineering, science as well as humanities, arts and social sciences.

Of the 284 graduates, two pursued their studies at the university’s home campus in Melbourne, Australia.

Notably, an Honorary Doctorate was conferred to Datuk Wan Ali Tuanku Yubi, a member of Swinburne Sarawak’s Board of Directors and Council.

The Honorary Doctorate awarded to Wan Ali symbolised Swinburne’s recognition of the strong support he has provided in the formation and development of the university’s Sarawak campus and his long and distinguished service to Sarawak through his leadership.

The convocation was attended not only by Malaysian graduates but also those from an array of countries, including Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Mauritius, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.

The convocation ceremony was graced by Premier and Pro-Chancellor of Swinburne Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and presided over by Swinburne University of Technology Vice Chancellor and president Professor Pascale Quester.
