KUCHING: With facilities such as the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre, more talents can be nurtured to bring more glory to the country in swimming and diving Pamg Joheng, the father to the nation’s diver who the aquatic centre is named after said that, her daughter should be exemplary for young swimmers in the state.

“With an academy like this, our young ones should be more driven to follow or even aim higher than what the country has achieved today.

“But more important is the discipline and the mental strength that the sports require its athlete to have. Without it, failure is imminent and futile,” said Pamg.

He also said that there were days when his daughter was low on motivation and refused to go for training. Hence, this is the time where support is much needed from the parents.

“Pandelela first started when she was 8 years old. In her nine years of training, there are days when she wanted to quit, when her physical and emotion was drained.

“We need to give her the support, not by raising our voices, but to speak to her compassionately. Only then, she would listen and her motivation renewed,” said Pamg.

At the same time, he is undoubtedly happy that the honour to name the aquatic centre was given to his daughter.

“I hope that the public pool will be able to help many aspirating young ones in achieving their goals,” he added.
