KUCHING: Only public transportation, essential services and emergency cases are allowed to obtain police permit to make inter-zone travel in Sarawak effective this Monday.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the committee had found out that a total of 505 positive cases and eight clusters recorded since January to date are due to movement between zones, thereby causing ‘Import C’ cases.

“Therefore, SDMC has decided to tighten cross-movement between zones.

“The police have been instructed to only issue police permits to those listed in the category of essential services that are allowed.

“These allowed services include public transportation, drivers who deliver food items and daily necessities, as well as emergency cases,” he told a daily Covid-19 press conference today.

Following a surge in number of cases, Uggah further advised Sarawakians to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the government.

“Be vigilant and do not be complacent. Take necessary action to protect the health of oneself, families and the community,” he added.
