KUALA LUMPUR: Sixteen companies were accorded honours at the 16th Responsible Care Awards recently.

Petronas Chemicals Ldpe Sdn Bhd won the Grand Award, in recognition of its outstanding performance in the CICM Responsible Care Awards 2021/ 2022 with the company winning three gold, two silver and one merit awards.

For the Safe Road Award 2022, Min Soon Transport Company Sdn Bhd emerged as the Gold Award winner, while Tiong Nam Logistics Solutions Sdn Bhd was accorded the Silver Award.

Air Products Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Averex Technology Sdn Bhd, Circular Agency Sdn Bhd and Linfox Transport (M) Sdn Bhd were given Merit Awards respectively.

The awards were presented by Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz here.

The award, organised by Chemical Industries Council of Malaysia (CICM) began in 2002 to promote better awareness of the Responsible Care Programme (RCP) and its principles,

It is also to give recognition to Responsible Care Signatories who have made the most progress in implementing its code of management practices in their organisations.

“Responsible Care is the chemical industry’s unique global initiative that drives continuous improvement in all aspects of safety, health, environmental and security performance, together with an open and transparent communication with stakeholders,” it said in a press release.

“It was initiated in 1984 in Canada and has since been adopted in nearly 77 economies worldwide, including Malaysia. CICM is the main steward for the Responsible Care initiative in Malaysia since 1994.

“To date, 150 chemical companies in Malaysia are signatories to the Responsible Care initiative.”

The Safe Road Award, meantime, was introduced in 2014, to recognise chemical transporters with good safety governance and compliance to legislative requirements.

“It complements the objectives of Responsible Care and is open to CICM members and Responsible Care signatories who manage their own transport operations or are their main transport contractors,” it added.
