KUCHING: Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng (SHNST) recently received a generous donation from its honorary chairman Soh Choo Chan.

Soh, a local philanthropist, donated 200 bags of 10kg white rice and 200 boxes of crackers to the nursing home, and gave each of its residents red packets as well.

In addition to the donation ceremony, he also organised a dinner party for the old folk to celebrate the Winter Solstice Festival at the nursing home.

The Winter Solstice Festival is when daylight is at its shortest in the year and is an important celebration to the Chinese community here.

SHNST chairman Tay Boon Sin expressed his gratitude and appreciation towards Soh for the contributions.

“This kind act by Soh fully embodies the spirit of compassion and I hope more members of the public would follow his footsteps to give back to society and actively take the responsibility of helping the world to aid the less fortunate.

“When the elderly folk are somewhat gradually forgotten by society, acts like this reminds them that they are cared for by the people of the nursing home,” he said.

Soh was also presented with a token of appreciation by Tay to commemorate his generosity towards SHNST.

Present at the dinner party and donation ceremony were SHNST honourable chairman Datuk Wong Tiong Hook and office bearers of the organisation.
