Pillion rider dies, biker severely injured after car rear-ends motorcycle

The scene of the accident that claimed the life of a pillion rider after a MPV rear-ended a motorcycle along Jalan Batu Kawa-Moyan.

PADAWAN: A pillion rider died on the spot while her motorcyclist sustained severe injuries following a two-vehicle collision along Jalan Batu Kawa-Moyan this morning.

Padawan police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the accident involving a motorcycle and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) happened around 12.15 am.

The duo was riding towards the Moyan traffic light intersection before they were rear-ended by the MPV driven by a 21-year-old man.

“The impact caused the pillion rider, identified as Voon Ah Fah, 55, to suffer severe injuries. She was later pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

“Her body was taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for a post-mortem,” he said.

Meanwhile, the 74-year-old motorcyclist sustained severe injuries to his left leg and bruises to his face. He was rushed to SGH for treatment.

Abang Zainal said the MPV driver, who was unhurt, is being detained under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He appealed to witnesses of the accident to come forward to assist in the investigation.
