BETONG: The pilot project to measure Native Customary Rights (NCR) land in Ulu Paku will be extended to areas in Kubal Ulu, Kubal Tengah and Kubal Ili, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

The project will also serve as a model for NCR land measurement for other communities.

Uggah said he took the initiative to make it as a model project after seeing the viability of the pilot project in Ulu Paku.

“Looking at the positive development of the pilot project in Ulu Paku, I intend to continue measuring NCR land with this method for other communities.

“Therefore, I am calling on tribal leaders and party leaders at the grassroots level from Kubal Ulu, Kubal Tengah and Kubal Ili to discuss the matter with their respective communities,” he said.

He was speaking during the NCR Land Measurement in the Kubal Ulu/Kubal Tengah/Kubal Ili area discussion programme and the Women’s Bureau cheque presentation ceremony in Bukit Saban here yesterday (July 23).

As the NCR land measurement master committee for the three areas involving 22 longhouses had already been established, he urged each of the longhouses to establish their respective committees.

“We will organise training programmes on the use of the Global Positioning System (GPS) tool in the near future and I have also approved the donation of five units of this tool along with a laptop for the Kubal area committee,” he said.

Meanwhile, at the same programme, Uggah handed over a Minor Rural Project (MRP) cheque to the representatives of the Women’s Bureau from 94 longhouses in the Bukit Saban area with a total value of RM393,000.
