PKR Sarawak to field 16 candidates

MIRI:  Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) unveiled its list of 16 candidates who will be fielded in the 15th general election (GE15) for parliamentary constituencies in Sarawak.

Party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the names of candidates during the Jelajah Mega Harapan here on Tuesday.

PKR Sarawak chairman Roland Engan and deputy chairman, Abun Sui Anyit will contest in Baram and Ulu Rajang respectively.

Miri’s incumbent MP Dr Michael Teo who has served two terms is replaced by a new comer, lawyer Chiew Choon Man, 31.

The other candidates are: Sopian Julahi who will contest in Petra  Jaya; Diog Dios (Puncak Borneo); Tay Wei Wei (Sri Aman); Langa Lias (Lubok Antu); Patrik Kamis (Betong); Ibil Jaya (Saratok); Mohd Fauzi Abdullah @Joseph (Kanowit); Abdul Jalil Bujang (Mukah); Umpang Salang (Selangau); Khusyairy Pangkas Abdullah (Kapit); Zolhaidah Suboh in Sibuti; Racha Balang (Limbang) and Japar Suyut in Lawas.

Anwar said 12 of the party’s candidates in GE15 are new comers. The party will be contesting in 16 seats in Sarawak.
In the 14th general election in 2018, PKR, which is a component of the Pakatan Harapan coalition, won four seats, namely Miri (Dr Michael Teo); Selangau (Baru Bian); Saratok (Ali Biju) and Puncak Borneo (Willie Mongin).

However, Baru, Ali and Willie left the party following the Sheraton Move in February, 2020, which led to the collapse of the PH federal government.

Meanwhile, PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli could not attend the event yesterday as he is still barred from entering Sarawak.
