ASAJAYA: Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has commended the efforts done by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in uniting the people.

In stating this, he said that the rakyat put their faith on Anwar, thanks to his leadership.

“Of course, we don’t encourage politicking especially when there are six states that will soon have their state election,” he said.

He said this in a press conference after attending the Asajaya District Aidilfitri Festival 2023, at the Asajaya Sports Complex here today.

However, he said that during elections, there is bound to be a split among the people due to the political standings and difference in races and religions.

“Sometimes, the campaigns held are too drastic towards certain races and religions. And this causes a split among the people.

“We do not want that. We do not want Malaysia which is known as a multiracial society to split up. We want inclusivity among us,” he said.

Having said that, Abdul Karim pointed out that the culture of tolerance upheld by citizens of Sarawak here indeed makes the state an exemplary state.

“This is how we are in Sarawak, it is always peaceful and stable. Now it continues to be enlivened by celebrating the festivity with other races and communities with the organising of open house ceremonies.

“We are grateful that we can celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri in a peaceful and prosperous state and two weeks from now, there will be Hari Gawai celebrations which will also be celebrated together with all the races we have,” he said.
