KUCHING: Poetic justice was served when two motorcycle theft suspects crashed in front of a supermarket at Jalan Padungan here on Saturday with the motorcycle they had allegedly stolen at Jalan Petanak.

Kuching district police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said the motorcycle was recovered after it was reported stolen at Jalan Petanak and that the motorcyclist and his pillion in their 20s were arrested following the crash at around 10pm.

The two were arrested to facilitate police investigation. They are expected to be charged under Section 379A of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to one year and a fine or both upon conviction.

“The arrest was made following information received by the police via its hotline.

“When police arrived at the scene, they found something amiss as the motorcycle had its ignition key and handle damaged and they suspected that the motorcycle was linked to a missing motorcycle report near an ice factory at Jalan Petanak on the same day,” Awang Din said when contacted.
