KUCHING: A police report was lodged against an individual identified as ‘Charles Roger Francis’ for allegedly posting defamatory remarks on Facebook directed towards Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari.

Political secretary to the Premier, Abdul Samat Gany said that the report was made at 12.30pm yesterday at Satok police station in response to the defamatory posts.

The posts reportedly contained unfounded accusations and derogatory comments against Abang Johari, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Federal Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

“We urge both the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to take necessary actions against the individual. We will also lodge reports in Sibu, Bintulu and Miri.

“On that note, I advise members of the public to refrain from making any unsubstantiated statements or comments on social media to prevent legal actions being taken against them,” he said when met by reporters.

Abdul Samat was accompanied by ten other political secretaries to the Premier at the Satok police station.
