Police advise candidates to “play fair” during campaigning

KUCHING: Sarawak police are advising the competing candidates and parties to play fair and abide by the rules when campaigning throughout the 15th General Election (GE15).

When met by reporters, state police commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the police will take appropriate actions in accordance with the law on reports of public disturbance during campaign period.

“Therefore, I advise the candidates and competing parties once again, to be prudent in campaigning throughout the election period.

“Based on our observations at the nomination centres (around Kuching), nothing has happened and everything is going smoothly.

“We have a total of 63 senior officers of 268 police personnel on duty at nomination centres in the parliamentary constituencies of Kuching, Santubong and Petra Jaya,” he said after visiting the Institut Kemahiran Mara Kuching (IKM) nomination centre for Santubong this morning (Nov 5).

He assured that the police will continue to carry out monitoring and deploy their men sufficiently to determine that the (entire election period) process runs smoothly.

Earlier, Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri and his police entourage paid a visit to two nomination centres here.

Kuching OCPD ACP Ahsmon Bajah was also present among Mohd Azman’s company.

They began their visit at the Petra Jaya nomination centre at SMK Petra Jaya before visiting the nomination centre for Santubong.
