Police-media rapport vital to spread info, says Sibu chief cop

SIBU: The local police chief has reiterated the important of strong rapport between media practitioners and the police force to ensure crucial information can reach the people.

He said community awareness over criminal cases that occur in Sibu is increasing.

“Therefore, I am very concerned about this matter, and want to make sure that the community  knows the importance of the media in channelling information to them.

“The collaboration between the media and PDRM (police force) cannot be separated, as exemplified by the force’s slogan, ‘Polis dan Masyarakat Berpisah Tiada’,” he said t during a hi-tea gathering here yesterday (Mar 22).

A total of 10 media practitioners from different media outlets and agencies here received a certificate of appreciation from PDRM for helping the force to disseminate information to the public.

Zulkipli also said that with the current era of digitalisation, the police need more platforms to make sure that information can be disseminated to the public speedily.

He said most media platforms are online and do not rely much on the traditional print media, hence believing the way forward was through maximising the platform with information to the community.

Meanwhile, Zulkipli also extended his gratitude to media practitioners for their effort in verifying information with the police.

“I hope that our collaboration will continue. I will give my full commitment to answering your questions. Sometimes, we reply late as we need further verification from our higher-ups,” he said.
