KOTA SAMARAHAN: The rapid economic and social development taking place in the district requires the police to enhance their capabilities and strategies to deliver their services effectively.

Kota Samarahan police chief DSP Brodie Brangka said Kota Samarahan is quickly emerging as a developing district, therefore the police force needs to be ready at all times to combat crime.

“With the rapid growth of development of residential areas and roads, and the increasing population, the police need to be ever prepared to face all sorts of situations.

“When development is evident, crime rates tend to also increase,” he said.

Brodie was speaking at the 216th Police Day commemoration parade at IPD Kota Samarahan today.

He said since the volume of vehicles will continue to increase with Samarahan being the epicentre for residents in Serian and Simunjan to commute to Kuching, road accidents would also happen more frequently.

Brodie said that motorcyclists have a higher rate of road deaths.

“In 2023, we had a total of 210 road accidents with seven deaths, no severe injuries, and four accidents that resulted in minor injuries.

“Most of the road accidents resulted in vehicle damage,” he said.

Brodie also advised motorcyclists to always add an extra padlock to their motorcycle, saying there were 46 motorcycle thefts in 2023, compared to 27 cases during the same period in 2022.
