Police probing deaths in Kg Gita bungalow fire

Police photo shows a bungalow fire that claimed three lives at Lorong Bunga Tongkeng, Kampung Gita on Sunday night.

KUCHING: Police here are investigating the death of a family of three in a bungalow house fire at Lorong Bunga Tongkeng, Kampung Gita on Sunday (Nov 13).

Kuching OCPD ACP Ahsmon Bajah in a statement, said a sudden death investigation paper has been opened.

He stated that they received a report pertaining to the incident around 7.30pm.

“Police confirmed that in this tragedy, there were three victims who died at the scene.

“The victims are a 69-year-old man – who is a government pensioner, a 35-year-old woman – who is the daughter of the first victim and a 28-year-old woman – the granddaughter of the first victim,” he said.

At the scene of the incident, Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) director Datuk Khirudin Drahman told reporters that they received an emergency call around 7pm and despatched firemen from the Petra Jaya and Batu Lintang stations to the scene.

On arrival, the team found that the fire had spread throughout the house and the victims were found in a room on the top floor around 8.40pm.

Khirudin added the victims were believed to have died from smoke inhalation, but that the actual cause of death will be confirmed by Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Sarawak Bomba’s fire forensic unit and the K9 detection unit.
