Police seizes RM1.19 million worth of drug in Kuching

KUCHING: Sarawak Narcotic Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) seized 25.6kg of drug worth RM1.19 million on Saturday, making it the largest drug haul in the state this year.

Acting Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said three boxes with 25 plastic packages and a plastic packet inside, each containing syabu and ketamine drugs, were seized in three raids at different locations last Saturday (Feb 26).

“The drugs weighing 25.6kg, is believed to be distributed to more than 25,000 users in Kuching,” he said at a press conference this morning.

“This seizure as of Feb this year, is the highest compared to last year’s drug seizure of about 13kg.”

He added that the police also arrested a 27-year-old jobless man during the operation.

“The first raid took place in front of a coffee shop at Mile 6 1/2, Jalan Penrissen around 1.30pm.

“The suspect was seen carrying a box and inspections led to the seizure of six plastic packages containing crystalline substance believed to be syabu, weighing 6.09kg.

“Following that, the narcotic police were led by the suspect to a courier company at Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce where he collected another box.

“Inspections led to the discovery of another six plastic packages containing drugs believed to be syabu, weighing 6.09kg,” he said.

Mancha who is the Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner, said the last raid led by the suspect, was carried out at a house in Kampung Bumbok, Jalan Batu Kitang around 3pm.

The team managed to seize a third box containing 13 plastic packages containing drugs believed to be ketamine, weighing 13.3kg.

Aside from that, the police also found a plastic packet containing drugs believed to be syabu, weighing at 664g, kept inside a tin.

He pointed out that overall, the Sarawak narcotic police had seized 25.6kg of drugs, valued at RM1,198,568.

Also seized was a RM30,000 car and a RM8,000 motorcycle.

Mancha said the suspect, who was tested negative for drugs, will be remanded for seven days until Mar 5.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a life imprisonment and up to 15 whippings, if convicted.

Also present was Sarawak narcotic police deputy chief Supt Wong Leong Meong and Kota Sentosa investigating officer Insp Awang Rezdly Awang Morni.
