MIRI: The police here have opened an investigation paper on a video viralled on Facebook allegedly showing an individual being involved in a handphone theft case in Pujut 2B here.

Miri OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said, in a statement issued today, that they have identified the Facebook’s owner, who on her (Facebook) account had claimed that the suspect in the alleged incident was still at large.

She also accused the police force of being not efficient enough in delivering their task to catch the suspect.

The case is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 against the Facebook page account.

According to Alexson, the Facebook page owner had accused the police force for failing to do their job to arrest the alleged suspect in the case, despite the suspect having been detained on August 22.

“We have received a report on the viralled video on August 23 by a car rental owner after the image was captured,  humiliating his company as well as the car (Perodua Bezza)  renter who was being accused as the handphone thief in the incident,” he said.
