KUCHING: Both top seeded pairs came out on top as the winners of their respective categories in the 38th Premier Sarawak Cup ITF World Tennis Tour Junior J300 (J1) doubles action held here at Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) Centre on Saturday.

In the girls’ doubles final, number four seed pair from Poland, Daria Gorska and Zuzanna Pawlikowska outfought number eight seed pair from Thailand, Salakthip Ounmuang and Lidia Podgorichani, and took the first set by 6-3.

In the second set however, the Thais stepped up their game to put pressure on the Polish and managed to force some errors from the fourth seeded pair.

However, it was not enough as the two Polish fought hard and held their grounds to secure the championship by winning the second set by 7-5.

This gold medal also enables Gorska to have the chance to become a double crown champion on Sunday if she is able to win against her opponent, number four seed Vlada Mincheva.

Meanwhile, in the boys’ doubles final, South Korean number four seed pair Jeong Yeon Su and Kim Jang Jun were declared the champions as one of their opponents, Quang Duong from United States of America, had to pull out of the final due to injury.

This spells an unfortunate end for the number six seeded pair Quang Duong and Australian Jeremy Zhang, who caused back-to-back upsets against higher seeded pairs in the semi-final and quarter final.
