SERIAN: Some 180 pupils of SK Bedup near here now have an upgraded toilet facility to use, thanks to the Rotary Club of Kuching.

Before the upgrading effort, the school’s toilets had deteriorated and became unsafe and unsanitary due to wear and tear.

Parents and teachers had been very concerned over the safety and sanitary conditions and words soon got to the ears of the Rotary Club of Kuching.

The club took up the challenge of working on a new and enhanced facility. What’s more, it even planned a facility with a capacity for any future increase in student population.

Thanks to the efforts and leadership of the Rotary Club of Kuching Central in collaboration with LDS Charities, the humanitarian arm of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints (which provided the RM50,000 fund), a new and much improved facility was built and ready for use on June 27.

“For the record, while the Rotary Club designed and managed the project and LDS Charities funded it, the builders were the parents of the pupils,” a statement from the Rotary Club said.
