Premier eyes collaborative ventures beyond 2030

KUCHING: The Sarawak Government is looking forward to more collaboration with the United Kingdom (UK).

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said Sarawak has developed a connection with the International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds (IFSWF) with its headquarters in London following the setting up of the Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Future Fund.

“With this connection, especially the professionals in London and other parts of the world, the future (is) towards not only 2030 but beyond 2030… We want to play a role in the region,” he said.

He said this when delivering the keynote address at the opening of MINTRED Connects@London 2023 programme held at the Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill London yesterday (Dec 8).

Abang Johari added that Sarawak is also currently collaborating with countries such as Singapore and Indonesia.

“We are now connecting with Singapore and Indonesia and there are already certain joint projects between us and then eventually the whole of ASEAN.

“So, these are some of the pertinent policies that we have adopted and we hope that with your experience, expertise and collaboration with us, perhaps we can enrich more people and become a viable economic entity within the region,” he said.

Earlier, the Premier said Sarawak and the UK Government has always maintained a good relationship.

“The UK and Sarawak, we have been there, we were part of the UK before we gained independence and became a part of Malaysia. The relationship between us has been good,” he said.

Later, in the same ceremony, Abang Johari also witnessed the signing ceremony of four Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) in cooperation in investment, tourism, art and product distribution.

The MoU involved were between Fame International Consulting (MM2H) Sdn Bhd and Salsa San Limited; Fine Impression and Crafito Arts & Film Academy London Ltd; InvestSarawak Sdn Bhd and WWIP Ltd; and Leonard Design Architects with Penan Women Project (P.W.P Company).
