KOTA SAMARAHAN: Mosques and surau in the Kota Samarahan parliamentary constituency have been urged to be proactive in addressing social problems in their respective institutions.

In making this call, Kota Samarahan MP Datuk Rubiah Wang said recently, there were many negative activities reported in her constituency.

“This includes drug abuse, especially among the young people. There are also other social issues that need to be looked into seriously,” she said as reported by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).

She further stressed that mosques and surau not only serve as a place of worship but also a place for community development in terms of social, education or economic.

“Through this, bad activities can be curved,” she said.

Later, Rubiah presented special grants to 95 mosques and surau management committees in the Kota Samarahan Parliamentary constituency at the Dewan Suarah Kota Samarahan.

Apart from mosques and surau throughout the village area, also receiving the grants were Salahuddin Al-Ayyubi Mosque in Penrissen Camp, and Tun Abang Salahuddin Islamic Center in Universiti Malaysia Sarawak.
