BAU: Bung Bratak Heritage Centre will soon have its own proper electricity supply.

In disclosing this, Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah expressed sadness over the fact that the heritage centre had been relying on only two electrical appliances for its electricity supply.

He emphasised that facilities such as electricity, clean water, and digital connectivity are essential for a place like the heritage centre, which attracts visitors from around the world.

“I believe that a place like a heritage centre should have important basic facilities such as electricity, clean water and digital connectivity.

“After all, this is one of the few places where a lot of visitors from the state, and all around the world are coming to experience the culture. So we want to avoid having issues such as no proper electricity,” he said during his speech when officiating Bung Bratak Day at Bung Bratak Heritage Centre in Bau today (May 1).

Abdul Karim added that although electricity does not fall under his ministry’s jurisdiction, he would work with the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunications to address the issue.

“Rest assured, I will look into this and make sure that there will be proper electricity here as soon as possible,” he said.

He also highlighted that the lack of amenities was possibly due to an oversight on the federal government’s part.

“This is possibly due to the federal government, who helped develop this place and did not provide the amenities.

“If the federal government does build the amenities, I believe it will be further provided by the state government,” he added.

Meanwhile, Bung Bratak Heritage Association (BBHA) chairman Datuk Peter Minos proposed that MTCP assist the centre in securing an adequate electricity supply.

He explained that the current supply was not entirely conducive as it incurred high operation and maintenance costs.

The ceremony was also attended by other distinguished guests, including Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol, Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh, and Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang.
