BAU: A proposal has been put forth to merge the districts of Bau and Lundu into a new administrative division.

According to Deputy Minister for Transport (Riverine and Marine), Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, the population of Bau in 2022 was approximately 72,000 people, surpassing the population of 60,000 when the Serian Division was established.

The Tasik Biru assemblyman stressed the need to ensure that Lundu District is included in this proposal to prevent any areas from being left out.

During an appreciation dinner for the Bau District Community Leaders and Village Chiefs (KMKK) here, he called upon the respective assemblymen, including Billy Sujang (Opar), Miro Simuh (Serembu), and Azizul Annuar Adenan (Tanjong Datu), to raise this proposal in the upcoming Sarawak Legislative Assembly sitting scheduled for November.

Currently, Sarawak has 12 administrative divisions, with Serian Division being the most recent one established in 2015.

The proposed merger of the Bau and Lundu districts is aimed at streamlining administrative processes and improving governance in the region.
