Public info sought in Sri Aman fatal car fire

Sri Aman police are seeking public help to assist in their investigation into the death of a man in a car fire by the roadside of Nanga San, Jalan Brayun on Wednesday.

SRI AMAN: Police are seeking information from the public on the case of a man who died in a car fire by the roadside at Nanga San, Jalan Brayun yesterday (July 19).

Sri Aman police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said information is needed to facilitate investigations into the incident, which occurred around 10 am.

“Initial investigations found that the vehicle that caught fire was a Daihatsu car and the driver, who died in the fire, is believed to be a 76-year-old Chinese man.

“Therefore, members of the public with any information on the incident, can come forward to the district police headquarters (IPD).

“They can also contact the investigating officer ASP Leonard Mallaca at 019-7509390,” he said.

Police have classified the case as sudden death.

Mathew advised the public against speculating or spreading false information about the case, as such actions may cause “unnecessary distress within the community”.

Yesterday, Sri Aman firemen found a man burnt to death in the driver’s seat and his body is now at the Sri Aman hospital for a post-mortem.
