PUSA: The matter regarding Sarawak’s status as a province and not a state, as mentioned by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin recently, shows that he is ready to restore the rights of Sarawak and Sabah as enshrined in the 1963 Malaysia Agreement (MA63), says Datuk Lim Kian Choon.

The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Pusa chairman said it was a recognition by the federal government of Sarawak’s rights.

“If we listen to Muhyiddin’s speech in Kuching recently, he explained that we must not forget that Sarawak is not a state, but a province.

“I’m optimistic and confident, this shows that he is ready to restore the rights of Sarawak and Sabah as enshrined in MA63.”

He said this after handing over contributions from Batang Lupar MP Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim to two heart patients at Kampung Spinang here on Monday (April 5).

He explained that victory for the Muhyiddin-led federal government in the next general polls was important.

“This is because a big victory, at least two-thirds of the parliamentary seats, so that the motion to restore the rights of Sarawak and Sabah becomes a reality.”

He added that the people should remember that in 1976, an amendment to the Federal Constitution Article 1 (2) was made which made Sarawak and Sabah as states.

“It was once tried to be amended in 2019 by the Pakatan Harapan government at the time which stated (A) All States in peninsular Malaysia and (B) Sarawak and Sabah which it did not have the support of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak MPs.

“It is because the amendment does not clarify the difference between A and B, so the amendment failed.”

After handing over the donations, he presented donations to two other heart patients at Kampung Pusa as well as education assistance to five children who are furthering their studies at university level.
