KUCHING: Efforts to claim the rights of Sabah and Sarawak must continue regardless of who is ruling the government, said political analyst Dr Lee Kuok Tiung.

Commenting on Sarawak’s decision to stick to its proposed formula for the distribution of the annual special grant to the state under Article 112D of the Federal Constitution, Lee said he agreed with the move.

According to Lee, the federal government needs to show its sincerity in fulfilling the promises of Sabah and Sarawak being equal partners.

“This also includes restoring the rights of Sabah and Sarawak as stipulated under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), Borneonisaton, devolution of power, autonomy and many others,” he told New Sarawak Tribune when contacted today (Dec 26).

He also urged the opposition to support what was proposed by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government.

“Do not protest or deliberately raise questions to confuse the people simply because they are Malayan-based parties … no one knows to what extent the current unity government is able to survive,” he said.

Earlier, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said Sarawak will stick to its proposed formula for the distribution of the special grant.

Abang Johari said although the federal government appears to have its own formula, Sarawak will stick to its own formula because it is fairer for the state and the federal governments.
