MIRI: Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I (Tourism) Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew has described the World Tourism Day 2023 (WTD) Sarawak as a crucial platform to help boost the state’s tourism sector, especially Miri.

In stating this after the opening of the WTD here today, Ting said the event was a way forward for Sarawak’s tourism sector.

“In fact, it (the event) has put Miri, Sarawak on the world map. By having this event, we can tell the world that we have various interesting places of interest for tourists to visit,” he told the local media.

WDT has been celebrated in September every year since 1980.

This date was chosen to coincide with the adoption of the UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organisation ) statutes on September 1970.

This year, Miri has been chosen as the venue for the Sarawak WTD, with Curtin University Malaysia Sarawak as the host for the event.
