KUCHING: The Public Works Department (PWD) will have to be on standby mode to repair damaged roads due to flooding, following a directive from Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

Uggah said committees and agencies involved, namely the District Disaster Management Committee and Divisional Disaster Management Committee, were instructed to be prepared in view of the current flood situation.

“We have instructed everyone to be prepared, not only for floods but also landslides among others.

“I’ve directed PWD to be prepared, especially in the northern area where most of the logging roads are damaged,” he said.

Uggah, who is also the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman, said this to reporters after visiting flood victims at the temporary relief centres (PPS) at Dewan Kampung Sungai Bedaun and Dewan Sinaran Lumut, recently.

He also advised the public, especially those living in flood-prone areas, to always be prepared in the case of an unexpected flood as the rainy season will be prolonged due to climate change.
