BUTTERWORTH: While others sell 500 gramme premium cakes at a minimum of RM25, veteran cake-maker Wan Zaleha Wan Hasnan, 63, sells hers at just RM10 – all out of charity.
The senior citizen who has been baking cakes for the past 35 years, started selling her cakes at this reduced price two years ago because she wanted to test new creations and at the same time, help people buy quality cakes at affordable prices.
Chocolate indulgence, red velvet, tiramisu, mango, snowy cheese, black forest and butterscotch are among 14 mouth-watering varieties of RM10 cakes on offer, with 200 cakes sold every day at her shop here.
Demand continues to pour in every day, with orders reaching as high as 500 per day during the festive season. When Bernama paid a visit to her shop on Wednesday, she said she never expected to receive such an overwhelming response.
“I believe if we are not calculative with customers, Allah will bestow even more blessings on us,” she said, adding that she did not mind making only a small profit, as long as her customers were satisfied with her cakes which each have fresh cream icing.
Wan Zaleha stressed that although the cakes are sold at a reduced price, they contain quality ingredients and
are fresh.
She used to sell her cakes on a small-scale from home but when her budget creations became a sensation on social media, she decided to open the outlet with the help of her husband, son and daughter-in-law.
Her affordable cakes are also sold through six agents as well as six stockists in Penang and Kedah. – Bernama
