MUKAH: The Sarawak government prioritises the quality of its elected representatives by providing them with exposure and experience related to legislative debates abroad.

The Speaker of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, said that as representatives of the people, they need to demonstrate quality to represent the interests and needs of the communities they serve.

“Quality representatives can ensure that the voices and aspirations of the people are heard and well represented at the government level.

“This is important to ensure continuous development and progress in the state,” he said.

He stated this while speaking at the handing over of donation to the community and village chiefs (KMKK) of Tellian at the Kingwood Hotel in Mukah recently.

He further explained that a parliamentary discourse is often organised by the Sarawak Legislative Assembly to introduce the assemblypersons to the parliamentary system, the legislative process, the roles of parliamentarians, and the principles of democracy.

“This can help individuals understand how governance works and how they can be involved in the political process,” he said.
