SARIKEI: Swift action by Rh Rasit residents prevented their longhouse at Sare Sentubuk here from being ravaged by a fire last night (Jan 30)

The fire at around 7.15pm only damaged some wires believed to be caused by a short-circuit.

The longhouse did not suffer any structural damage.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the small fire was quickly put out by three residents with fire extinguishers.

Firemen from the Sarikei station who were deployed to the scene only carried out monitoring works by ensuring the area was safe.

No injuries or casualties were reported.

The team ended the operation around 8.40pm.
