KUCHING: The State Health Department has identified one new Covid-19 cluster in Kampung Rajang, Tanjung Manis, Mukah on Monday (Mar 22).

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the cluster, dubbed the Rajang Cluster, stemmed from a funeral ceremony and tahlil feast held in the village from March 1 to 3.

“This cluster is also categorised as a community cluster involving inter-district movement involving case index from Sarikei District.

“The index case is a local woman aged 55 who was detected through close contact screening to a positive Covid-19 case on March 4 in Sarikei District,” it said in a statement.

SDMC said the cluster involves contacts from the districts of Tanjung Manis, Sarikei and Kuching.

As a result of active case screening and detection to the case index, it said an additional 28 Covid-19 positive cases were detected involving the cluster.

“A total of 271 individuals were screened, of which 29 positive cases including the index case were detected while 83 individuals are still awaiting their laboratory test results and 159 are negative,” it added.

The committee said all 29 cases involving the cluster were referred and admitted to hospitals and low-risk treatment centres in Mukah, Sarikei, Sibu, Bintulu and also in Kuching.

On a lighter note, SDMC said the State Health Department has also declared the end of the Jun Heng Cluster in Bintulu after no new cases were detected within 28 days from the last case detected.

“With that, a total of 34 clusters are still active in the state. Of these, eight clusters reported an increase in cases while 26 other clusters have no additional cases,” said SDMC.
